General Caption: "Views of Altoona Works, the Principal Shops of the Pennsylvania Railroad." Of special note is caption number three: "Locomotive on testing plant, Altoona, Pa." Shown here is engine #790, an I-1S (2-10-0) "Decapod" built in Juniata in December of 1916, rebuilt as an I-1SA in January of 1943, and retired in August of 1956 after 40 years' service.

Description:  Here is an original photo by Douglas C. Jones that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #790, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built in Juniata in December of 1916, rebuilt as an I-1SA in January of 1943, and retired in August of 1956 after 40 years of service. It's returning to East Altoona following another helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back. Photo taken just East of the 4th Street Footbridge.
